Red odoriferous ear and vomitingQ: My 5 mo. golden pup had a really red ear with dark spots on it and a bad odor. i started cleaning it with alcohol and treating it with nystatin/neo/etc... which cleared up the ear problem. this similar ear problem occurs frequently in my 12 year old golden, and i always use the nystatin. is this correct, or should i be using something else? i've seen lots of products on here and i don't know what the ear problem is exactly, but the nystatin and alcohol seems to work. also, my 12 year old retriever never gets sick with the ear infections, but my puppy vomited for 12 hours. could this possibly be correlated to the red, odoriferous ear? thank you so much! A: The choice of medicines would depend upon what is growing in ear i.e. some dogs have mainly bacteria while others have yeast. i would have culture done at your vet to check what is growing so that best med can be chosen. what you are using is fine temporarily. also vomiting not related to ear
Pooping and peeing in houseQ: Hi, my family bought a dachshund in august of this year. as of today he is 4 months old, we bought him when he was 9 weeks old. he is the sweetest dog but we are having trouble potty training him. he won't use it in his crate while we are gone, which is great. as soon as we get home, we let him out to potty and he does and we also reward him with praises and treats, but he still has accidents in the house and whats crazy is that he has a favorite room to pee and another one to poop in! i can't never catch him in the act. he stays locked in his crate during the day for 8 hours with no accidents..and we take him out every hour and a half in the evenings. how can i get him to totally house break? i never used paper, i thought that by taking him out, he would eventually get the idea and he has somewhat. any suggestions? thanks A: You may want to go out more often than every 90 minutes. try 60 minutes or 45 minutes.

Hair lossQ: Our choc. lab has minor hair loss around his eyes with a small spot of scabbing/abrasions. he also exhibits a small amount of hair loss on the knuckles, not sure if this is in relation to the eyes. he is an indoor dog that does not dig or rub on concrete. i know cats can exhibit the hairloss around the eyes due to parasite's. would this be the same with dogs? or can dogs have allergies? he seems to sneeze a good bit at times, nothing continually, rub at his face and have a very wet nose. thanks for your time and consideration. A: Sounds more like allergies to me. i would try oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound twice daily as well as add brite coat xs and prozyme to each meal from 1800petmeds which can help skin long term. but should have allergy workup at vet
Shop for: prozyme, 1800petmeds

Why do i need to use monthly flea preventative?Q: Why do i need to use monthly flea preventative? A: Using a monthly treatment to prevent flea infestation is much easier than, and in many cases much less expensive than, the effort required to control and eliminate an already existing flea problem in terms of time and effort.
