What dosage to buy
Q: My oldest son is allergic to flea bites so we keep our indoor cats completely free of insects. we just got a new puppy fully equipted with ticks. we are planning to take her camping in a few weeks and don't know what to get. she is just over 9 pounds at 9 weeks old and going to be a big dog. around 65 pounds. what type of product should we get for her and what dosage to look for, the current weight or the weight she will become?
A: Any product you use would have to be for her current weight at the time of application. we suggest using frontline plus and a tick collar if you are going into an area known to have ticks.
Shop for: tick, frontline plus, frontline

How toxic to humans is this treatment?
Q: I am very alergic to insecticides and have a doberman that aparently has mites (demodex). the d;og's treatments could include mitaban, ivermectin, milbecin and antibacterial shampoo. can you please tell me if any of these contain pyrythrin or any similar agents that i am very alergic to? thanks, bob kindorf
A: Because you have an allergy to pyrethrins, you may also have a cross-allergy to related products. for this reason, you should wear rubber or vinyl gloves, and a face mask whenever you are handling the products. also check with your personal physician for further recommendations.
Eating feces
Q: My beagle eats poop from our other dog we own. how do i stop this. it is horrible. we have two ratt terriers, but the beagle just goes after the one. help
A: Deter is a safe and effective easy to feed chewable tablet. it should be given to the dog whose feces are being eaten. it is used to stop dogs and puppies from consuming feces. consumption of feces (coprophagia) is a common but disturbing habit in dogs. the cause of this behavior is unknown, but this product is formulated to stop this.
Oxydex shampoo & advantage flea control
Q: We have to shampoo our small dog with oxydex at least one time per week for control of demodex. does this remove the protection of the advantage we use on him? we also have to give him a small amount of liquid ivermectin every other day. our vet said since he is on that, he does not need heartguard. true? do you also carry that product? thank you.
A: If you wait 24 hours after applicatioin of the advantage you will not have any problem bathing your dog. ivermectin is the active ingredient in heartgard and you would not need both. we have ivomec solution, 1%, our sku # 10097
Shop for: advantage, heartgard, ivomec
Frontline
Q: I didn't use all the frontline last year how long is it good for beyond expiration date?
A: Medications do not suddenly cease to work once they reach their expiration date. rather, the expiration date is the date beyond which the medicine begins to loose effectiveness and there can be no guarantee that the product will work as expected. as a pharmacist, i have to advise you that no medicine should be used beyond it's expiration date because of this potential lack of effectiveness..
