TestingQ: How often does heartworm testing need to be done if the pet is on year round proheart medications? A: That depends on the area you live in and the effectiveness of the proheart for your pet. there are veterinarians who will not use the product because of reported problems with it.

Frontline plusQ: We have a 130 lb rottweiler, she is pregnant. we also have a 30 lb dog. i normally keep them treated with frontline plus. i had heard about advantix. i am wondering if that is the best thing? i had spoke to someone about the advantix and they said the frontline for our 130 lb would need 2 different weight ranges of product, that the largest one is only up to 100 lbs. due to cost, if this is the case, we may have to stick with the frontline plus. please advise me. thanks! A: I would check with 1800petmeds pharmacist about dosing. please dont use any of them if dog is pregnant

Flea/tick treatment for 8 pound dogQ: We have a year old chihuahua and he is about 8 pounds (7.70 lbs back in 08/03). we are looking at getting frontline plus and was wondering if it would be ok to get the small dog dosage for him. we also have a 24 pound pug we want to get on frontline plus as well but know which dosage to get him. what would you recommend? thanks. :-) A: We cannot recommend using a product in a manner that contradicts the labeled instructions; therefore you would have to use the frontline topspot item #3088 on the chihuahua. for the pug, the frontline plus medium would be fine.(item 10458)

Pooping and peeing in houseQ: Hi, my family bought a dachshund in august of this year. as of today he is 4 months old, we bought him when he was 9 weeks old. he is the sweetest dog but we are having trouble potty training him. he won't use it in his crate while we are gone, which is great. as soon as we get home, we let him out to potty and he does and we also reward him with praises and treats, but he still has accidents in the house and whats crazy is that he has a favorite room to pee and another one to poop in! i can't never catch him in the act. he stays locked in his crate during the day for 8 hours with no accidents..and we take him out every hour and a half in the evenings. how can i get him to totally house break? i never used paper, i thought that by taking him out, he would eventually get the idea and he has somewhat. any suggestions? thanks A: You may want to go out more often than every 90 minutes. try 60 minutes or 45 minutes.
Dangerous bobcat ticks found in areaQ: My two cats go outside, sometimes in the woods. our area has been warned that bobcat ticks are fatal to cats. my cats are allergic to frontline (lose hair) and revolution. the advantage has controlled fleas but i realize it is not effective on ticks. can you recommend a product so that i can feel more secure when they are out? A: Use a cat flea and tick collar, and check regularly for allergenic reactions.
